There are different Power of Attorneys for specific responsibilities: IE _ Medical Power of Attorney; General Power of Attorney; Durable Power of Attorney...but the ting to keep in mind is: All Power of Attorney's are good only in life, they become obsolete after death. To protect your rights as an interested party in the relationship if you are not married, other legal paper work is required to have been filed that passes responsibility to a named person to take care of after life matters. The only way of doing this that I know of is through filing Trust documents. A Trust names an individual who becomes the executive of the estate and that position carries the responsibility of taking care of funeral arrangements, filing final tax returns, paying off remaining debts from the estate and distributing the remainder assets to the named beneficiaries. Filing a Will works too except that with a Will, it is the courts that control how all this is done. This is a good topic :) Thank You - added 09/11/2009 - by Gennilla
